As we read the Old Testament, war almost looks like the state of things. Particularly in the springs when that’s what KIngs did. But then we get to the New Testament and we’re given a world at relative peace, oppressed and volatile, but no armies clashing. The reason is simple to discern, Jesus was here and He had a message to get across, but afterwards, things quickly returned to normal - the threat of and the realization of war. As Matthew 24:6-13 tells us, “And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.” Christian men, and now women, will be called to war, perhaps even war after war. Guard our souls, Lord Jesus.
